12 day fast: Is salt, potassium, magnesium enough?

I’m 2 days into a 12 day fast. I’m currently taking sodium chloride (Celtic Sea Salt), potassium chloride and Magnesium Sulfate.

Do I need to worry about zinc, calcium, Thiamine, iodine etc?

Answer

If you’re using iodized salt, then you’ve got iodine covered. I’ve had success taking multi-vitamin supplements in the past (including fish oil), but that technically has calories and purists would point out it “breaks your fast.” I guess it depends on what you’re trying to accomplish. If you’re going for autophagy then be a purist, if you’re going for weight loss by burning fat, then it’s ok. I’ll drink a cup of bone or chicken broth when my stomach grumbles (25 calories- GASP), but it’s such a small amount that your body stays in ketosis for its primary source of fuel.
