16:8 or one 24hr or 36 hr fast a week

Hello! I am new to IF which was recommended to me by my trainer to shed some stubborn weight that just won’t come off. I want to lose 20-30 lbs (I am a 30 year old female btw). My trainer recommended an all day fast one time a week to drop weight. The first week I was able to do a 36 hour fast, the second week (last week) I only got to 26 and started to have a pounding headache despite staying hydrated. I’m on a fasting day today again.

My question is, does a longer fast one time a week seem more effective or is daily fasting (16:8) better for fat burning? Or does it come down to what’s easier to maintain? Fasting an entire day is sort of hard for me because I’m not able to work out hard but I do like being able to eat without too much restriction the rest of the week. Anybody have experience with both?

Answer

I started shedding more fat when I got up to the 20+ range of fasting, but it took me awhile to get there as my body was not use to it. I started at 18:6 for about 3w before I made my first 24h fast and now it is easy for me and I do it everyday.

I started with a 16/8 after 2.5 months of keto for 2 weeks and had no weightloss. Then I started once weekly with 36-48hr fasts and the weight started to budge! Just a couple pounds but they’ve been staying off. .I think if you’re just starting try a 20/4 daily if all day fasts are hard right now. Work up to the all day once weekly and switch it around and find what works for your schedule best.
