16 yrs and going on 7 day water fast - is it okay?

I’ve already tried water fasting before you tell me to see if I like it, I did a 3 and half water fast before I broke it with pizza (I know, dumb, friends came over with pizza) is it okay? I’m on day 3 of the 7 day water fast and to the people I’ve told (Case manager, teacher, friends) told me it wasn’t okay. I’ve lost about 10-12 pounds on during these fasts. They probably haven’t read up on it as much as I have, I’ve read articles, videos, people’s diarys during the fast and they all have such tremendous results.

I started at 208 and now I’m 198. But is it okay? Also I’m turning 17 on the 19th. I probably won’t do fasts as long as 7 days if someone tells me if it isn’t okay. I tried doing dieting, low-cal, low-carb diet for a month and saw no change and this the only thing working for me. And with the results I’m getting it’s great! I was thinking maybe 3 days then eat and then 3 days on repeat until I reach my goal of 160 pounds. I’m 5’4 if any of that information helps. The only bad side effects I’ve seen is the headache I got today and today only.

Growing is not just getting taller. Humans are considered growing until about 24 years old. While growing, body consumes and needs much more energy. As a medical professional, I would not recommend water fasting for long time for you unless some specific conditions exist. Until you complete your adolescence (about 24 years old), it is better that you collect information about every kind of fasting and veganism. Do not trust every information you find instantly. Research more, adapt your diet and take professional opinions if you can. I believe you can try intermittent fasting. Which is shortly you only eat only at a period of time in a day and eat nothing at the other time of the day. You have to adjust what you eat of course.

Try OMAD or 20:4 instead of longer fasts. You can do OMAD every day if you like. Also, water and pinch of salt every time you feel headachy. Exercise helps in keeping off what you gained and making you feel confident about yourself.

Just lol at everyone on here. Provided that you are otherwise in good health and have significant bodyfat to lose, 7 days will not kill you or stunt your growth. The main thing is to make sure that you get adequate electrolytes during the fast. Pragmatically this means adding sodium and potassium to your water. Look it up to figure it out, if you can’t…you shouldn’t be fasting.

I will say however that 7 days is probably about as long as you should go given that a fast longer than that may start to impact you in unforeseen ways and moreover, 7 days is more than enough to realize your fat loss goals.

I also want to second the intermittent fasting recommendation as a good long term strategy to keep the weight off.
