the most I’ve done is 56 hours and feel ready to go beyond. either the 72 hour or 5 day. Which one would maximize benefits or does autophagy really peak at 72 hours?
acully atuophagy really kicks in after 72 hours altho this time changes depending on what you ate but its a good refrence the benefits keep getting better until day 7 which after that they stagnate or decline
so the best would be day 5 altho, things you can do to maximise autophagy is to be in a faster state before fasting and you do this through eating only vegtables but that for most can be difficult
at 3 days autophagy is very minimal and not worth it if thats your focus and if you find difficulties fasting for longer times then try looking at the fasting mimicking diet which is low calories and only vegtables
Some fasting doctors caution against fasts of 2 to 4 days. The potential problem is that while your body is making the transition from running on glucose to running on ketones (which the body doesn’t get deeply into until about day 4 or 5), it burns proteins, and scientists don’t yet fully understand the consequences of that protein burn. If you fast for 5 or more days, you’re likely getting enough restorative benefits from your fast to outweigh the costs of that protein burn. Note, though, that many fasting doctors also recommend that if you’re going to fast for 5 days, it’s best to do it under the supervision of a medical practitioner experienced in overseeing fasts.
