50 calories or less...but over what duration?

So I’m beginning to intermittent fast and I’m loving it. I keep reading to keep it under 50 calories to stay in a fasted state. Ok, got it. Great! My question is, over how long? 50cals in 4 hours? 8hrs? 16?!

I’m asking cuz I woulddd like to add some MCT powder to my coffees along the way. One scoop (9g) has 57 calories. Ok, so I puts a tsp (4g) in. Boom, got it.

But say fast forward four hours and I go for another cup…where does that calorie count stand by that point? When does it reset?

Thanks for the input in advance 🖖🏽

Im gonna go ahead and disagree. Consuming any calories breaks the fast. Depending on what the macros are, it may not raise insulin at all, but it will always break the autophagy which is a great part of fasting and the autophagy can cause a really nice euphoric sensation especially when you get past 18 hrs.

I have heard the only things that won’t really break it at all are water, salt, black coffee, tea, soda water, and apple cider vinegar.

Edit: OK I went back and looked for this video because I found it to be super helpful and it made everything so simple for me. https://youtu.be/5BXOkgwQTjk

Answer

What are you fasting for? If it’s for autophagy, any of that would break a fast. If you’re insulin resistant, the insulin spike would also defeat the purpose of the fast. It would probably be fine as a one time daily dose if you’re not insulin resistant and only fasting to lose a small amount of weight, but you’re not going to get the real benefits of fasting.

Answer

Dont use mct.

You literally want to add fat, so your body doesn’t need to touch your own.Even if its less than 50kcal.

Fasting means nothing goes down your throat. If you drink water, thats water fast. If you eat something like 50kcal, thats fasting mimicking.
