6’2 M SW: 210 CW: 184 GW: 175. I’ve plateaued; thinking of cutting out carbs.

Like I said I have plateaued I’m only 9 pounds away from my goal weight. I’m thinking about cutting out carbs but I don’t know what the best way of doing that without doing it cold turkey style. Any other thoughts and suggestions welcome as well instead of the carb cut.

I would maybe try and go in order. Like cut anything with added sugar, replace all highly processed carbs with complex ones, and then finally start start reducing overall amount.

Or do some of the above and also cut 200 calories.

Answer

Start trying things. I would come up with a list. With any plateau where you are sticking to plan, your body is saying, “Look! I’ve found a way to make do with the calories I get without cutting into the body fat any further.” Your body is becoming more efficient. The thing you want to do is knock it off balance so it starts tapping into fat again for those final pounds.

Cutting carbs may be enough. A further calorie reduction might be enough. You can try them. When I’ve plateaued I find calorie reductions don’t do much. I’ve had to go to more aggressive tactics.

Some other things to try. Longer fasts. You didn’t say what you do, but going from 18:6 to OMAD or OMAD to 36:12. Change it up. This is how I ended up on 36:12 and I’ve stayed there ever since.

Hope you find your way. Do you have a maintenance plan? I’m on my 2nd round of loss via IF and calorie restrictions because I didn’t maintain.

Answer

If you’re eating sugar and starch and processed food, yeah, cut those out, and you’ll lose some more for sure.

Once you get to goal weight, best advice is to continue the abstinence on those things and instead just up your protein intake
