is there any danger in consuming more than 7,000mg/day of dietary K primarily from potatoes and proteins?
The recommended daily intake of potassium for adults is 2,500-3,000 mg, and consuming up to 7,000 mg of dietary potassium per day is generally considered safe for healthy individuals. However, individual tolerance to potassium can vary, and in some cases, consuming high amounts of potassium can be harmful.
In general, excess potassium intake from natural food sources is unlikely to cause toxicity, as the body is able to excrete excess potassium through the kidneys. However, excessive potassium intake from supplements can be dangerous, especially for people with kidney disease or other medical conditions that affect potassium excretion. …
… However, as with any dietary change or supplement, it’s important to consult with a healthcare professional before making any significant changes to your diet. (ChatGPT)
Potassium is excreted in the urine and in a healthy person, excess is pretty easily processed. This changes dramatically for someone with impaired kidney function. If you have ever had kidney problems, or someone in your family has/had kidney disease, it could be dangerous even if you don’t have problems on a normal diet (i.e. you might be able to process a normal intake but not a high intake)
