Acid reflux on extended fasts?

Does anyone else get acid reflux and weird feelings in their throat on extended fasts?

I’ve done multiple shorter fasts (3-5 days) with no issues but my two longer fasts (6+ days) have both had a lot of this, occuring around day 5 or so.

Symptoms are basically the feeling like something burning is coming up my throat (brief sensation and not like i’m gonna puke) with lingering effect for awhile after

Any tips on how to migitate this too?

Answer

I get this, especially on long fasts and ESPECIALLY after drinking my electrolytes. Haven’t figured out a way around it and I had to quit a long fast bc of it. I’ll be looking here for some advice as well.

Edit for correction: I suggested to use either ACV or Baking Soda, only use baking soda. ACV will make your symptoms worse.

ACV is acidic and in the middle of a prolonged fast your body is already very acidic.

Answer

Something like Nexium 24HR is more effective long term than ingesting baking soda everyday. In addition to the extra sodium, which may cause dehydration via diarrhea, it’s messing with your pH levels such that you’re helping the wrong kind of gut bacteria. It can also interfere with your ability to break down medications and absorb nutrients.

It won’t break your fast either.
