ADHD/anxiety meds and fasting

Does anybody have experience with this? I usually take my meds in the morning with breakfast? Not sure about taking them on an empty stomach?

Answer

Yes OP. I took my prescribed AFHD meds for several years with, then some years without food.

Fats, proteins, vitamin C, Magnesium, and other common nutrients all affect how amphetamines are metabolized. Anecdotal internet accounts and some published research suggest these differences are noticeable. Your doctor will recommend you take your medicine with a meal.

However, your doctor is also… prescribing you amphetamines. And also just reading from a script while doing so.

So if you can take your meds without food and you don’t feel awful, mazel tov. If it feels like they hit too hard and you get queasy, pull back. But it will be a pretty different experience either way.

Answer

Not a DR but do take a lot of medicine. To the best of my knowledge, usually they tell you to take medicine after eating is to not upset your stomach.

It shouldn’t make a huge difference if you take them on an empty stomach or not.

I’m on adderall and I’ve always taken mine on an empty stomach, I find it helps them work faster. I’ve never had issues with upset stomach and my stomach is incredibly sensitive. But you can also shift your eating window earlier. I like eating earlier in the day anyways, I see more progression with weight loss if I’m not eating close to bed time.

I’m on Ritalin and I always take it on an empty stomach. My first dose I take after I get up (minimum 12 hours after eating), and my second dose I usually take 6-7 hours later (often I still haven’t eaten). I’ve not had issues.

Hello - I take Adderall XR in the morning without issues, no upset stomach or dizziness either. For what it’s worth, my heart seemed to race when I took my medication with food or within an hour of eating, but now that I take it on an empty stomach, this seems to happen substantially less.
