advice for a runner??

i feel like anytime fasting is described, the first thing they say is not to do cardio or intense exercise when fasting… any tips? i literally run cross country for my school and can’t avoid running 5-7 miles every day. sometimes it just feels so aggressive, like during my workout on thursday i was actually feeling so sluggish and heavy bc i hadn’t eaten in like 20 hours lol.

it just seems like not a good fit, but maybe i can make it work? any other runners have tips? i was thinking i could just “dirty fast” or like break my window into two short ones?

If you’re in high school, you shouldn’t be doing IF anyway. You should be concentrating on building a body with a constant influx of food and running that cross country.

Eat nutritious food when you are hungry. You can burn almost anything being young and your running is making you strong and enhancing your physique. But if I were you, I would put a hold on this structure.

Answer

Well I would say its just about how to time your food intact with the running. I eat from noon until 4 and do cardio around 7pm and I feel pretty good. Not too full not too hungry. But also I’m 57 years old trying to lose weight if you are young running 5-7 miles a day it may not be healthy for you to fast like that.

Hey, as a former x-c runner, can I ask if you’re fasting for weight loss? Or health? If I recall, you should be at the end of your competitive season, right? I would forego anything more than about 14:10 for the rest of the competitive season, and then pick up a longer fasting time once you’re maintaining your health, speed, and distance, instead of trying to build it. Even if you’re going for weight loss, I personally think it’s better to finish your season as strong as you can be, and then work for dropping some weight. (IF that’s your goal.)
