After fasting food tastes different / changed palate

I recently completed a 7 day water fast. Prior to that, I was doing basic IF for about 6-7 weeks. During that time, I began to notice a change in the foods that seemed appealing to me, and now after my 7 day fast I notice huge change. The taste and even the thought of some foods is repulsive. For example, I tried to eat some salmon that was farm raised and I couldn’t even eat more than one bite. I could taste how “fake” it was and how they tried to cover over the taste with way too much butter. Now I’ve had this exact same dish before and thought it was fine/passable or even tasty, but it was absolutely repulsive after fasting. Like I could taste it for what it was. I do remember something similar years ago when I quit eating fast food for a very long time, and then I tried to eat some and I couldn’t. All of a sudden it was disgusting for the most part (with limited exceptions).

I’m just wondering if others have experienced something similar or the same type of thing and whether it will pass, or whether it is a permanent change to my palate.

Answer

I was strict keto for about 6 months before spoiling myself with a donut. It tasted like concentrated disgusting fake sugar sweetness. I couldn’t eat more than a couple bites. It’s amazing how your pallet can be affected (I’d argue for the better).
