Alertness and energy at night

Hi! I’ve been doing intermittent fasting for years and I recently tried my first 48 hour fast. Everything was going great. I took a vitamin supplement in the morning and sipped on some water with salt and lemon in the afternoon when hunger started to kick in. As usual during my fasting period, I was alert with lots of energy. However, I noticed that my sense of alert and energy stayed just about the same as bedtime approached. I couldn’t relax because my body was so alert. I broke my fast at 24 hours because of this and until then I was able to relax and sleep. Does anyone else get this with extended fasts? How do deal with it? I want to be able to break through this and fast for over 24 hours. Thank you, I’ve learned a lot from this sub!

Answer

well this is due to cortisol or stress and with me to make fasting easier i consume coffe which makes sleep even more of a detriment , a few things you can do is try not to take naps and be more calm and taking your electrolytes can have an effect, the body has its clock when you fast you mess with the hormones that regulate that clock which means your patterns and the clock will shift
