Almost completed my very first long fast (72hr)!!!

I started it not knowing that it would turn into a 72hr fast! I still have 5 hours remaining, but I’m feeling great, and up until the last hour I wasn’t feeling hungry at all (I’m now making chicken broth and the smell is reaching me and making me a little hungry). I didn’t expect to feel such low hunger level throughout (except perhaps on day 2). Yesterday I was feeling so low on energy I had to cancel my training plans at the gym, and today I’ll just go for a short 5k step walk before breaking the fast.

Planning on breaking it chicken broth and an egg, followed by a small salad consisting of cucumber (pickled and fresh) and two tomatoes. Then I’ll make myself a steak with some veggies (total of 800 calories overall, since I saw many of you recommend to keep calories low for the day).

I don’t have a scale nearby so I’m not sure whether I lost any weight, but I’m just happy I was able to achieve this! Turns out my mind is stronger than I thought.

For my next fast I’m going to make sure I buy electrolytes. In this instance, I just drank water (to which I added a little salt and vinegar once), coffee, and tea.

Anyways, just wanted to share :) Hope yall have a lovely day

Answer

Congratulations!! Don’t feel too bad about canceling gym plans because some people say that exercising while fasting a bad idea because it raises cortisol which puts your body into starvation mode and therefore decreases the amount of calories you burn. Keep in mind I’m not sure if this is true. It kind of makes sense. But yeah 😂
