Alternative caffeine sources

I’m looking to find a caffeine source other than coffee/black tea/green tea.

Ideally the caffeine will not have sugar or aspartame.

Yerba Mate is something I’ve heard of, but I don’t much about it.

any form of yerba that is smoked will contain carcinogens, so if youre worried about health, it may not be the best option. check out guyusa, very similar to yerba but all around better imo. can also find unsmoked yerba

Caffein pills! Any pharmacy will have it. If I take them, I take a quarter of a pill for getting into a work mood and 1/2 not to fall asleep. They seem to work much longer than a cup of coffee in a pill form, I get 3 hours of quality focus time on a 1/4. They are cheap, too. Caffeine is a diuretic so water is key. ✌️

In the past I brewed Yerba Mate it’s a very popular drink in parts of South America. I don’t know how much it caffeine it contains compared to a regular coffee but it had enough to pick me up. I thought I could acclimate to the taste but never did. It’s not expensive to try the traditional method of brewing, you need to purchase a hollowed out gourd (it’s usually painted and attractive) and a metal straw that has a bulb with small holes to act as a filter.

I saw a tiktok of these great value energy drink powder packets from Walmart . 120mg of caffeine per packet. I mix two - three of them with some ice and water and that’s now my equivalent of a monster ! I was trying to cut out monsters since they have so much sugar and calories and these great value energy packets are 5 calories each and sugar free . The regular energy ones are great . I recommend the dragon fruit , blueberry açaí, and pomegranate ones . Those flavors are great . The energy plus electrolytes ones don’t taste great so don’t grab those lol . Plus a 10 pk is cheaper than one monster !

I stopped drinking coffee last year, despite enjoying it thoroughly, after being bombarded with research of how it’s not really that great for you.

Incidentally, I came across Yerba Mate a few months later and have been drinking it ever since.

The main benefits of Yerba Mate are as follows:

It contains less caffeine than coffee, and less caffeine overall is a good thing, mainly due to caffeine’s negative effect on sleep. For reference, my strong daily Yerba consists of 50g of the substance, which equates to about 60mg of caffeine.

The process of extracting caffeine from coffee removes most (if not all) of the nutrition from it. On the other hand, Yerba is one of the most nutrient-dense drinks on the planet.

Yerba contains another xanthine alongside caffeine: theobromine. It’s a similar stimulant, but is longer acting and is associated with less jittering/anxiety, and less of a crash.
