Alternatives for kcal counting

Hello,

There are many apps (FatSecret, Cronometer, etc.) to track nutrition data. But mainly, it measures kcal. The second popular data layer is protein, fat and carbs. Applications require to enter data manually in accurate manner.

Are there alternative approaches to track nutrition data?

Answer

Accurate and specific information would require you to track energy consumption and kcal are a standard unit for that (kj alternatively).

For some goals though, it might be possible to reframe the problem.

For example, if your goal is weight loss, then really ultimately you need to get into a permanent habit of eating fewer calories. It might be easier then, to focus on satiety.

The benefit of that would be that it wouldn’t be as important to record every single food you eat, as (hopefully) your satiety would handle the amount. That might reduce the effort needed to weigh and put in every single food you eat.

Just a thought.
