Am I the only one that starts to cook/ bake delicious food when fasting?

Every single time that I start fasting I go into a cooking or baking frenzy doing cakes or God knows what even though I don’t even taste them. I found this(call me crazy, you wouldn’t be the first) to help me in the process and well, my girlfriend is only bothered that she can’t eat all the cakes/ food that I make so we end up sharing with our neighbors and family.

Am I the only one doing this?

Answer

Nope, you are not. Im doing meal prep for half a week. And I always do it, when I fast. Doing a tree day fast? Still doing meal prep for the time afterwards. I dont know why this is, but just handling food gives me joy I dont need or want to eat it during the fasting period.

Answer

No, you’re not. 👍

I spent an entire 10-day vacation with family cooking for them or taking them to some really nice restaurants in one of the world’s top tourist areas. Fasted for that entire duration.

Now, I have read - esp Filonov - that the presence of food during long EFs can trigger poor tempers & moods - even if it has no effect on the faster’s resolve to continue.

Now, that’s an interesting POV and deserves study. I’d think that there would be some subconscious reactions to fasting while cooking on day 10 of a water fast. 🤣

Others on this sub and elsewhere describe vivid food dreams, enjoying aromas, etc - but haven’t come across many anecdotes that talk about the many mental & behavior changes that are likely accompanying SIGNIFICANT physiological changes.

I have a problem of buying food and then it spoils or goes bad because I don’t eat it, especially vegetables and fruit. For instance I will buy Romaine lettuce and because of fasting it takes me several weeks to eat it and so I end up throwing some of it away. Same with bell peppers, cucumbers, tomatos, etc. I should probably chop up and freeze most of it instead of putting them in the frige.

When I first started fasting I was getting severe indigestion. I also had kids at home I had to cook for daily. Turned out my stomach was creating acid in preparation to eat. Now I take an anti acid daily when fasting.

I fasted for 5 days and finished 3 days ago. I made about 2 weeks’ worth of super healthy curry and dahl :D Now it’s all frozen and I can be lazy for a bit. I love doing that. Somehow cooking doesn’t even make me hungry or wish I could eat.

Answer

I don’t do that, since that’s is too risky for me.

Instead (mostly when I just started… mostly), I would buy my much-craved snacks & food-products online. That way, I “get” then, but not… unto a few days later, when they arrive in the mail & my fast is over.

Unfortunately, that made my 1st fasts pricey for me. Luckily, I learned to control it. Now, cravings have to be strong as Hell to make me buy stuff, and (even then) it’s not that much.

Lol, I do this for my 8 yo son. I like to make him pancakes, waffles, special cookies, muffins, and for my husband Jamaican things like bulla and spiced bun. I don’t eat them, kind of living vicariously through them I guess. I also like the smell.

Answer

When I spend a lot of time cooking something and smelling it the whole time I kind of feel like I’ve already eaten it . For one of many reasons this is why I prefer to batch cook and freeze meals (means I don’t have to eat the stuff I just spent ages cooking that day while already tired of it lol, and I just prepare a different quick meal afterwards instead). I only fast one day a week but I find it a great day for an epic batch cooking session - doing something to keep busy and occupy your mind is always good and as a bonus I feel like I’ve eaten.
