Antidepressants and IF

Will antidepressants hinder weight loss when doing IF? Any experiences or insights? I started Zoloft but am worried about the weight gain. Thanks

I was not able to lose when I was on lexapro, and for a while after stopping. Over the six months I. Was on it I gained 5lbs even while fasting and working out 5 days/week. Everyone has different body chemistry and reacts differently, you may have no problem.

I’ve gained on some and lost on others. The first time I was on Wellbutrin was the only time in my life I was actually skinny. I just didn’t care to eat much. Took a break and went back on, now it doesn’t seem to affect my appetite either way. Statistically SSRIs are associated with weight gain, Wellbutrin with loss. Individually it’s more complex than that.

I was on Zoloft 50mg through the pandemic and I gained 15lbs even though I was doing cardio regularly, and eating pretty healthy. I just tapered off over the past few weeks and I’m completely off it now. I realized that the Zoloft kept my heart rate lower. I track my cardio and heart rate for all my workouts and it is consistently like 20 bpm higher now (in a good way) and I can perform better because it feels like I have more oxygen. And I’ve lost weight faster being off the Zoloft

I gained this weight due to Paxil and was unable to lose it. I switched to Zoloft and have lost over 15 pounds so far. Each body is different, but I think Zoloft is considered weight neutral so you should be able to lose.

Answer

Depends on which med you’re on tbh. And the side effects are still on an individual basis. Just go ahead and see how your IF and exercise goes. Personally when I was on zoloft when I was 14, I had a reduction in appetite and lost my first 20 pounds naturally. Good luck.
