Any side effects of One Meal Per Two Days?

Hello!

Because of the hot weather, I don’t have an appetite and I’m already used to OMAD and I want to escalate it further and I’m considering going for One Meal Per Two Days.

My meal is not something heavy in calories, most of the time it is some type of meat, a Greek salad and seasonal fruits.

The size of meat is roughly one steak (half of the plate), the salad is a full plate with lots of olive oil and the fruits can be watermelons, grapes, melon

So any side effects?

Answer

I’d keep a watchful eye for nutrient deficiencies (ideally seeking expert guidance) and pay really close attention to how I feel and function during each cycle.

Personally I wouldn’t adopt such a scheme because, knowing myself and my environment, I wouldn’t be able to uphold it over the long haul. Nonetheless, for the kind of individual who needs variety and/or has plenty of weight to lose and/or has relatively low energy demands, I find that it may well be a viable option at least for a time.

Answer

Ultimately it depends on how long you plan to sustain it and what these meals represent in relation to you.

The potential side effects would be related to essential nutrition. While we have calories in our body fat, eating well and supplements for micronutrition, and such. There’s just no getting around the protein and dietary fats we need on average most days as timeline is extended.

The body has a whole process for deciding if it needs protein and fats as protein and fats first - it covers everything from keeping our hair healthy and maintain muscles to regulating our hormones. Only once it’s decided it doesn’t need them do we break them down for energy, but we don’t store these, we can’t make these, we just have to eat them most days. Hence why they are essentials.
