I had my thyroid removed, so I’m 100% substituted with meds, which is ok, but not near as good as your body being able to regulate on its own. I feel better when doing if. I lose weight slowly on 16:8 and need to go quite a bit further to speed it up. Like 2x36 each week. So I usually just stick to 16:8

I have Hashimotos and I feel 100% better on IF. I’m a distance runner so my IF schedule varies based on my training. When I’m not training, I do mostly OMAD with a couple 24-36 hour fasts during the month. As my training cycle intensifies, I’ll add more meals to where I’m about 18/6. This is a gradual process based on what my body needs for fuel.

With Hashimotos, I need to pay attention to what and how I eat and IF works better for me than anything else I’ve tried (WW, Noom, Atkins). I’m about 90% clean eating but the real magic is the autophagy with the OMAD and extended fasts. The brain fog is reduced, I have more energy, and my skin is clear. OMAD is the game changer for me.

The best thing about IF is you can play around with it to find what works best for you. Regardless of your schedule, you might also want to look at your diet and eat foods that help your body deal w hypothyroidism. Everyone is unique so you’ll need to discover what works best for you. It takes a while so be patient with yourself. Good luck!

I have Hashimotos for past 20 years. Been IF (OMAD) for past five and lost about 50 pounds in the process. Never really felt that I had the usual symptoms. I recently stopped medication after consulting with my PCP as I felt I was overmedicated. I was at 112mcg. Been off medication for the past eight weeks and am journaling just to assist in the conversation with PCP later. Nothing has really changed for me. I have another four weeks to go before my next blood tests but so far so good.

Questions I have are why was I on daily medication for the past 20 years without symptoms? Do the reference ranges for Thyroiditis management apply to someone following a fasting regimen? Most longstanding medical reference ranges were developed many years ago and based on males following a standard American Diet, to my understanding. I am a 58 yo post menopausal woman following a very low carb, animal based diet and eat one meal a day. It feels like my PCP is prescribing to a reference range that may not be relevant to me.

Anyways, I am asking that my PCP consider my individual response to the lack of medication before recommending medication going forward. I don’t want to take medication I don’t need.

i have hashimotos and i do 16/8 with the occasional 24hr fast. i’ve lost 20lbs in 5 months. it’s the only diet that’s ever worked for me. i feel so much better.

also! it’s likely that you have some sort of gluten sensitivity. most thyroid people do even if they don’t know it. i try to eat gluten free about 50%-70% of the time, it helps tremendously. it doesn’t have to be perfect and don’t stress if you don’t have a GF option. i would just do it when you can!
