anyone add half and half cream during fast

Hi, I’m day two on my 16:8 fast after reading Dr Fungs book.

The first day was just a trialish, I used hazelnut coffee creamer (full of sugar and carbs) in my coffee, and decided after I still wanted to miss breakfast to see how my stomach adjusts because I don’t work that day. I was shaking. Headaches and miserable by 10am. I pushed through til 1145am and ate.

So second day, I added a tablespoon of half n half creamer. A funny thing happened. I had no shakes, no headache and no drops all morning. I ate at noon when our lunch break is at work. I was so worried I’d feel like crap all morning.

So as we know, it isn’t calories that necessarily make us gain weight (for those who read the book) it’s what spikes insulin and somewhat sugar. Half and half does have 50 calories per tablespoon, but no carbs or sugars.

I added a tiny bit today, not because I need cream, but I somewhat wonder if adding that fat content to my coffee helped keep me satiated until noon.

I know dropping that coffee creamer was such an eye opener! I’m so glad I figured that out. For years I thought it’s because i didn’t eat enough breakfast. Every morning for over two years I’d make two hard boiled eggs, and 1 snack cup of greek yogurt. One coffee and creamer (I never measured it either).

Anyways my point is, would the half n half break my fast? I added less than a tablespoon. I might try tomorrow not to at all, but if it keeps me satiated til noon I’d hate dropping it! But losing weight right now is my goal. I saw a study on Google that these people did that didn’t see an increase in glucose and the ketone were tested and remained the same with or without half n half cream in coffee.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Answer

I do full heavy cream in my coffee, it’s pretty much pure fat so it does stop the body from burning it’s own fat but there’s no insulin spike. It’s taboo, you should only have black coffee or water but I am a rebel I guess. I can’t do black coffee, if I stall out I know what I need to do but my feeling is always do what works for you, unless it doesn’t work lol
