Anyone see an increase in fasting blood glucose with IF?

I’m starting week 3 of a 16:8 plan. Got my blood test results back from my annual physical, and my fasting BG (about 14 hours after my last calorie) was 99. I’ve never seen anything over 90 before, even when I wasn’t fasted - I could go in after lunch and it would be the same 84-86 as if I went before breakfast.

99 is still “normal,” but it’s not normal for me, and I’m wondering if it might be higher because of IF (more gluconeogenesis?) or despite it (was I developing prediabetes before I started?)

Answer

Are you skipping morning breakfast?

In some studies, delaying the time participants started eating in the day worsened glycemic control. Long post discussing this here.

Anecdotally, you’re probably at least the 50th person in this sub I’ve seen over the years report worsening blood glucose numbers (or worsening blood pressure) since experimenting with “IF”. It’s awful seeing that and not having the time or opportunity to reply to everyone.
