Anyone struggle with keto & still succeed with fasting?

I’ve had success losing weight in the past with IF, OMAD, 24-36 hour fasts, CICO etc. During those periods of weight loss I was in ketosis at least according to the keto strips.

Based on that I do think my body “knows how” to become fat adapted?

Unfortunately however I had a bitch of a time when I actually tried the keto diet. I was strict keto for ~8 weeks once. I made sure to do everything “right,” cooked at home only, weighed & measured everything, kept an eye on calories, and stayed ~20 carbs per day.

My “carb flu” never went away. I just had no energy during that time and felt crummy for the whole time before I eventually gave up. It was especially dispiriting because I also didn’t lose weight, even though I was tracking calories, probably because I didn’t have the energy to be as active as usual.

Anyone else totally fail keto but still do well with fasts? Anyone eat carbs going into/out of a fast and have that go okay?

Or did I do keto “wrong” somehow? (Do you need electrolyte support for keto?)

I’ve done 24-36 hour fasts fine so I’m hoping to go to 48 and work my way up to rolling 48s.

Keto discussions often focus too much on food and not enough on fasting, which is interesting because fasting is the first and possibly most important element of classic keto for therapeutic purposes. As for carbs, I would try upping the proportion of protein instead (make it low carb rather than keto). Also experiment with the different types of fat such as plant-based oils.

Hi, I hate keto and it doesn’t work for me at all. I do rolling 48s with 1 meal between and have no issues as long as the food I eat is healthy (no fast food or I feel like crap). Last night I had sushi and tomorrow night I’ll have paella! When I have tried keto I literally just feel like shit until I give up and it doesn’t make fasting easier for me.
