Anyone tried dosing Niacin (or similar) whilst performing longer fasts (3 days +)

I like to fast every now and then and I’m planning on doing a fast after Christmas for about 3 days (seems to be the right length of time for me). I’d like to keep taking my Niacin (currently taking 1500mg/d), has anyone tried this? I’ve noticed the flush effect is a lot stronger when I’m fasted (in the morning), and I’m planning on reducing the dose in this time and building up as necessary.

Anyone have any experience and/or knowledge on this? I know fasting increases NAD+ levels in the blood, but not sure by how much and if Niacin might take those levels too high.

Regards

Answer

I still take niacin as well as nmn during fasts. Others don’t, the reason being that they want to give their body a break from it. Neither is backed up by any evidence whatsoever.

I’ve also noticed that the flushing increases a bit, but otherwise I don’t really feel any different. The effects of the nmn are generally less pronounced during a fast.
