Approaching Endocrinologist about fasting

How did you present this to your doctor? I want to start a regime that will work for me but I need to be cautious since I am on Metfomin.

Have you found that you had to find a new doctor because the current one wasn’t willing to work with you? I really want to get off of the diabetes meds and cholesterol meds I am on but I feel a traditional doc might try to convince me otherwise.

Has anyone tried this coaching program with success? https://idmprogram.com/join/

Answer

In my experience, it is very difficult to find doctors who are knowledgeable about fasting. The vast majority of docs observe the “follow the pre-written path - take more drugs.”

You might want to listen to Dr. Fung’s recent long interview on Peter Attia’s podcast. He emphasizes the importance of having a supportive community around you, whether or not you are in his program.

Then maybe email Dr. Fung to ask for doc recommendations near you. Good luck!

Yea previous doctor was completely against it. I did it any way and just never went back to her. Went to a new doctor, explained my history, he took one look at my labs, said “well whatever you’re doing it’s working, keep doing it.” He’s not sold on fasting when I was trying to explain it, even got him Fung’s book for Christmas, but I don’t think he read it, which is unfortunate because he’s quite a rotund fella and fasting would do him a load of good.

I am a Health Educator for IDM, I would suggest a consultation with one of the coaches there. If you wish, I could give you my direct consultation link. Being on Metformin doesn’t disqualify you from the program. I help people reduce and eliminate their medications every day.
