So I’ve heard that when you make a smoothie with fruits and vegetables, the fiber is broken down, so the body processes the food much quicker, you get an insulin rush, and so it’s not as healthy as just eating a whole fruit or vegetable? Would adding a fiber supplement to your smoothie negate this fact? Also…I’ve read that, “fiber supplements may reduce or delay your body’s absorption of certain medications.” I also take a collagen supplement. Should I not take a fiber supplement and collagen together? Thanks!
I’m not sure about collagen exactly, but when I talked about supplements with my primary care physician, he said he strongly recommends fiber supplements (and a lot of water too) because most people don’t get enough of it. Helps keep you regular of course, but helps prevent things like colon cancer as well!
Probably not optimal to take them together. It seems like taking fiber with your smoothie / breakfast and then collagen after digestion would be more ideal. Or if your smoothie is at lunch have the collagen earlier in the morning and the fiber later.
The fiber isn’t broken down that much.
Additionally fiber isn’t really all that big of a deal. The issue with blending fruits and veggies is more overloading your liver with fructose. It’s not about fiber.
While fiber is important in your diet, it really is not as big of a deal or as important as everyone makes it out to be.
Very few people need a fiber supplement so I would save your money.
Fibre supplements are VERY unnecessary. Think about it, the amount of fibre we need isn’t actually that high and adding more does NOT mean more benefits.
If your diet contains apples, carrots, Bananas, potatoes, legumes, etc you’ll meet fibre easily (keep in mind there’s no real requirement of a minimum intake). My diet is pretty decent in white rice, white pasta, etc and I still get fibre in, sometimes I have to even reduce the fibre. I even have a 50/50 split of animal and plant nutrition in my life so…
If you’re somehow struggling for fibre, fix your diet, don’t supplement (which is also more expensive).
Feel free to take collagen whenever, it’s good for immune and joint health.
