I would like to know if the frozen fruits have the same nutritional value as the regular kind
The frozen fruits (and other frozen produce) you find in a supermarket often have a higher nutritional value than what you would find in the fresh produce section. This is because the frozen produce is typically picked at peak ripeness and frozen within minutes to hours of being harvested. (The freezing process doesn’t really have an effect on the nutritional value.)
Fresh produce, on the other hand, is often picked before it is ripe, and ripens during transportation. As result, it never reaches peak nutritional value.
One possible exception, though, is fresh produce that is locally grown, as local farmers (and gardeners) have no need to pick before ripe, so they typically wait until the produce is ripe and ready to be harvested.
The answer is yes. However, some fruits taste better picked fresh. That’s the only difference. Flash freezing can actually retain nutrients better than their fresh counterparts.
My Top 5
Blueberries
Raspberries
Strawberries
Bananas (for smoothies)
Cranberries (for smoothies)
Wishing everyone a 2022 filled with health and good eating!
It probably depends on the fruit. Many berries are known to retain most or all of their nutritional value when frozen. But I would assume there are exceptions, such as fruits that become difficult to eat after being frozen.
Kind of
Freezing something damages its molecular structure, as the water molecules crystallize and damage their surroundings.
Any damage this process incurs on the nutritional value of the item is probably negligible. However, the item as a whole would not fare well. This is the reason why we can’t just freeze people and thaw them later. All their cells will be shot to shit by the water crystals.
Freezing and thawing a food item will most likely only result in the taste differing slightly.
Some microbes and bacteria might be killed by being frozen, so you won’t have to care as much about preparing your meal. But do wash your veggies thoroughly.
People pick veggies, and people might wipe their ass with one sheet of toilet paper and ignore the fact that it ripped when they did so; then go on to pick your veggie. A lot of ass-bacteria can survive very low temperatures.
All that said; if you actually meant “are frozen fruits and vegetables as healthy than normal veggies/fruits in the market?”, then the answer is most likely no. The frozen ones are probably more healthy, provided they were frozen pretty soon after being harvested.
