I know they are different parts of a plant. But for example, I have no veggies at home today but I have some avocados, manderins and banana and will eat that plus some meat. Or do I need some actual veggies? Growing up, in my culture, veggies are for dinner and fruit are for dessert/snack so they’ve never been part of a real meal in my eyes. But sometimes I just hate cooking veggies, my husband is super picky about veggies but likes all kinds of fruits.
From my understanding, the biggest difference is sugar content. Typically, fruits contain much more sugar than vegetables, but there are many low-sugar fruits like peppers, that have good antioxidants and vitamins.
Fruits generally have more carbohydrates, although there are some higher carbohydrate vegetables like potatoes and lower carbohydrate fruits like tomatoes and peppers. And they all have different micronutrient profiles. Check out cronometer.com. You can put in any food and it will give you macronutrient and micronutrient amounts.
Fruits will have different and similar nutrients as vegetables. You can live a life on fruits, but it’s recommended to get a diverse amount of plants in your diet. Excluding vegetables long term is not the best move, but people have done it.
I don’t think there are any nutrients you can only get from vegetables that aren’t in fruit, but you might have to be more vigilant about getting them all.
