Are fruits good or bad to break 72h fasting?

Fruits are almost completely absent in everything I read or watch about breaking fasting. They aren’t mentioned even in the DON’Ts Are there any fruits that are good for breaking a 72h fasting? Papaya? Melons? Banana?

Answer

Fruits with high water content are easiest to digest. So stuff like oranges, melons, etc. I’ve broken my fasts with them many times. But I’ve also broken my fast with salmon. Just depends on what you prefer.

Typically, lettuce is difficult to digest. Onions and garlic can also mess with your stomach lining after an extended fast. 72 hours isn’t too-too long, but still something to be aware of and maybe avoid for a day or two when breaking your fast.

If you struggle with your digestion after an extended fast, invest in digestive enzymes and probiotics. Your body stops producing them as much and gut flora dies off a bit. The longer the fast, the more you’ll need these two things, but they can be helpful for 48-72hr fasts as well.

Answer

I’d probably not break anything over 48 hours with fruit. The sugar content is a little high. It won’t harm you per se but why fast to then resort to nature’s candies? Go for protein instead, like chicken breast or a cut of beef, boiled eggs perhaps, along with fat (avocado). I’d keep the fruit to an absolute minimum.
