Unsubstantiated “X is good. Y is bad,” type statements about foods are not the type of posts we aim for in this sub. Additionally, questions about artificial sweeteners are frequently asked and you can find many previous posts by searching the sub.
No, sucralose is not the same as stevia. You can find pure stevia on supermarkets or online, just read the label so it’s not mixed with sucralose or other stuff.
As far as I know, Stevia and Monkfruit (and maybe erythritol) are the best out there in terms of not being problematic.
Personally I use monkfruit-erythritol blend, can’t stand the taste of stevia.
It’s about processing. We grow stevia in the garden and use it for sun teas but it’s pretty unappealing. I prefer honey and maple syrup for sweetening but most things just don’t need it. Baking with real sugar is required sometimes for the texture as I have never found products like stevia sugar substitute to do well.
It is well understood that added dietary sugar causes metabolic disease. Yet low calorie sweeteners get a bad rep. Could the sugar industry be involved? Hmmm.
Aspartame is far safer than a bunch of sucrose, dextrose, fructose and the 60 other forms of refined concentrations of sugars. It’s madness.
There is no real evidence suggesting that artificial sweeteners cause cancer other than some animal studies where rats consumed supra-physiological doses that are hardly relevant to human medical science. On the other hand, we do know that obesity can drive certain cancers such as breast cancer, of which we know high intakes of sugar is implicated (especially sugar-sweetened drinks like coke).
I think people are more scared of the unknown, even if the known alternative is proven to be dangerous (a normal human reaction, though irrational).
i mean idk about cancer but lately there are some studies i have read on 0cal sweeteners and altering gut microbiome atleast in animals and some in humans

i also totally believe that aspartame is no good to us bcs of Aspartic Acid and Phenylanine overdoes if used often for long period of time

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11991085/ (i havent know until recently that byproduct metabolites of aspartame is formedahyde) also seems like this is 50/50 topic if u hate artifciat sweeteners you HATE HATE them but if you like em you hate those who hate them so its kinda touchy subject lol
