I would probably try less carbs (and perhaps more electrolytes) before saying for sure that it is not working.
When I crave bread I have a trick, slicing white bread ultra thinly, and toasting it on pan. That way I get a large amount of bread taste/texture with relatively small carb amount. Also, doing it this way, it actually tastes better the more stale it goes, so one loaf lasts me a long time. (Neat since bread is getting super expensive.)
