Autophagy: How to accelerate?

I’m very new to fasting and although I generally do a 12:12 on an almost daily basis and have tried few 20-24 hr fasts in my past, I’m not sure if I’ve ever reached the autophagy stage.

My question is how can I, through a 24 hr fast, reach autophagy and maintain it for few hours? It’ll be great if I can reach that stage earlier as well.

Thanks in advance l!

Answer

Autophagy is always going on to some extent but fasting greatly enhances it

Strictly by not eating, 18h is the lowball starting point. Eat low carb/keto and you’ll hit this easier in my understand. High amounts of carbs in your diet will slow you hitting higher autophagy amounts. Not eating is by far the biggest bang for your buck in terms of boosting autophagy and the longer you fast for, the stronger it gets

Exercise, however, can accelerate this process. More intensity will boost it further

Apparently apple cider vinegar and green tea also ramp up the autophagy system

Keep in mind autophagy basically returns to normal as soon as you eat regardless of what you used to get it going

So in my case (I fast for autophagy), I do OMAD (supper meal) when I eat so I’m almost always passing by that 20 hour mark. I have 2 tbsp of ACV in my water first thing in the morning every day. I also exercise. If I’m eating that day, I try to exercise \~2 hours before eating. However, until we get a way to monitor autophagy, I’m just going on blind faith that all this is working well together

Hope it helps
