I get so weary when I hear people discuss eating baby food. The idea makes perfect sense! But there’s so many people with undiagnosed EDs who also sing these praises.

I think it can be a good idea if it’s for a quick snack or WITH a meal.

Answer

Great on the go snack, like applesauce pouches. Esp recommend if you’re doing lots of active stuff one day and need an easily digestible snack between events that won’t make you queasy if you exercise. It honestly is more fun eating things out of pouches… just hits diff lol&& when I lost my sense of taste w covid I ate a lot of these, v helpful

Answer

it’s fine to eat them if you like the taste but an adult can’t get sufficient nutrition from baby food. at best they can be a handy snack. if you must eat purees, you can make your own by cooking some whole grain, legumes, fruits, veggies, nuts, and seeds along with spices, seasoning, and plenty of water. maybe add some mince chicken, bit of milk, some boiled and peeled eggs as well. this will make sort of a frankenstein congee or khichdi with very balanced nutrition profile. once everything is fully cooked, take an immersion blender and puree the whole thing. eat pureed paste from bowl.

As an autistic person with food texture issues, I struggle with maintaining an adequate vegetable intake. I have been known to enjoy an errant baby food pouch here and there, but I find veg powder to be more sustainable in the long run!

Answer

“Baby food is lacking adequate amounts of fiber, fat, and protein to sustain a healthy adult. This puréed, and often strained, food is created for babies with underdeveloped digestive systems,” says Cooking Light assistant nutrition editor Jamie Vespa, MS, RD https://www.cookinglight.com/eating-smart/nutrition-101/baby-food-diet-for-adults

Also I’m so tired of people saying organic as if that makes all the plastic and heavy metals go away. As consumers we need to demand looking into microplastics which are in our water and food supply, and to have labels specify the amounts of heavy metals. I’d much prefer to pay a bit more for a food low in heavy metals vs organic. Organic doesn’t mean free of heavy metals -and if microplastics are in the water- they are in the food supply -including organic.

Answer

I always keep a stash of baby food pouches. I don’t eat tons of them, but it’s a nice snack option.

I know they aren’t super environmentally friendly, but I feel like the rest of my lifestyle makes up for it.
