Bad breath after ~20-24h fasting?

Hi all,

I personally don’t notice this, but every time when I fast, as soon as I hit the 20-24h mark, my girlfriend start complaining that I have bad breath. Brushing my teeth seems to work for maybe 10 minutes at the most. I’m sure this is because the problem is not in my mouth, it’s more because of some deeper process related to fasting / autophagy.

I have very good oral hygiene and floss / waterpik daily as well as brushing twice.

Is there anything at all that can be done about this? I love my occasional 24h fast, but I don’t want it to become a burden on others!

Answer

Keto breath. Did you know that most fat that you lose is expelled not from urine/sweat/fecal but mainly from your lungs. Ensure you’re flossing to get all the bits of food stuck between your teeth and cut back on coffee/tea if you can and go for water/sparkling water. Keeps the mouth lubricated and germs at bay. Hit a brush/floss/rinse at the end of your eating window to get all the stuff out and make sure you brush in the morning or night.
