Besides weight loss, what are the benefits of prolonged fasting? I’m asking because I’m using the fasting tracker app and it explains what is happening in your body at different “levels” i.e. hours of fasting, but it only gets up to level 11 which is at 72 hours immune cells regenerate but no other levels come after that.
Does your body just keep doing that the longer you fast? Are there other “levels” to prolonged fasting past 72 hours besides weight loss?
BDNF, GH, and autophagy. All peak after 5th day forward. BDNF is brain derived neutrotrophic factor, helps in neurogenesis and making new synaptic connections. Basically heals your brain and makes you learn faster. GH - growth hormone. Increase helps to prevent muscle loss during long fasts, keep skin smooth, and keeps your blood sugar up. Autophagy - basically dead cells being cleaned up and new ones coming in; think of it as rejuvenation of your whole body.
