Best foods to eat when breaking your fast?

I have been doing intermittent fasting since the beginning of the summer. I have been doing 17 to 18 hour fasts then having a 6 hour window to eat. I feel it has helped me but I still get bloated a lot. I think it may be the foods I’m eating. I’m looking for help with foods to eat when breaking my fast and foods to stay away from while in my eating window. Thanks

Answer

Foods high in carbohydrates make your body store more water, which may be contributing to the bloating. I suggest breaking your fast with high-protein, high-fat foods, or vegetables. For example, eggs, meats, and any number of cooked or raw vegetables should be good to break your fast on. Sugar/fruits are not ideal because they sharply increase your blood sugar levels. You can have them, but you probably don’t want to eat a ton of them. Fruit juice, which I see recommended a lot for breaking a fast is, in my opinion, a bad idea just because of the super high rate sugar is delivered to your blood stream without the fiber that normally buffers the release of fructose in fruits. Good luck, do your own research.
