Best science explainer?

Loving the positivity on this sub, and getting very interested in IF after trying a very basic 14:10 (skip breakfast) for the last few weeks.

I’ve read “obesity code” and would like to find more information on how metabolism works in terms of insulin, glucose, sugar/fat burning, etc. Preferably with graphs. I feel like I might actually be able to understand how nutrition works physiologically by understanding fasting, which is just really interesting to me in addition to helping, hopefully, my weight loss goals.

So: what’s the best or latest book that explains the current scientific understanding of human metabolism, written for a wide audience?

And just for fun: I’ve been literally only skipping breakfast for three weeks, and I’m down 5 lbs averaged per week after years on plateau. Had good results with low carb diets before but wasn’t sustainable.

Answer

Tbh The Obesity Code is the best one I’ve seen! I would look up the references given in The Obesity Code and start reading those for more detail. Some of them are scientific articles that may be paywalled. Ask at your local library whether there is any way to access those articles, e.g. through inter-library loan. If you are a student or employee at a university, or know someone who is, they may be able to access the articles through their university library.
