Black Coffee Hack

For those who HATE black coffee (including me). Adding a pinch of salt will cut out the bitterness & a sprinkle of cinnamon for flavor. I was skeptical—salt in my coffee?!?! But it worked!!! I was able to continue my fast for nearly 19 hours because I didn’t need my usual half& half + stevia. I was excited & wanted to share with you. This will be a fasting game changer for me. 😊😊

Salt attenuates our perception of bitterness (I don’t think we really know how…) and makes the other flavors come through. Salt and dark chocolate is another great example.

Great “hack”! I would also note that how you brew your coffee makes a difference. An Aeropress gives richer flavor with less bitterness (to my taste buds) than drip, for example.

Answer

It helped take away the bitterness but it still tasted like coffee.

I don’t like coffee no matter how I tried it… Shame really.

It’s supposed to be healthy in so many ways but it just tastes awful to me.

Salt in coffee doesn’t break a fast? I love my coffee black. If it is bitter, that is typically a portioning issue. I am an avid fan of making r/frenchpress as coffee is much more smooth. Additionally, if weighing coffee grinds (with a proper burr grinder), you will have a great cup every time. Thanks for the tip!
