Blood sugar question

Is it normal to have 104mg of blood sugar after a 17 hours fast?

I don’t exercise at all and work from home.

Answer

Well that is a smidge high. 99 mg or lower is normal, 100 to 125 mg is prediabetes, and 126 mg/dL or higher well; you have diabetes.

Over time fasting will lower your blood sugar but it doesn’t happen overnight. After 17 hours you have your baseline level which is why they test you after a 12 hour fast (because if they tested you after half a dozen of Krispy Kreme doughnuts they would put you on insulin on the spot). As a matter of fact it takes 3\~4 days of fasting for your body to go lower than your baseline, but that’s only for the duration of that fast. That doesn’t mean that short fasts do not help; the more times you sustain your blood sugar low, the more insulin sensitive you become, the lower your baseline becomes.

I’m prediabetic so I’m focusing on 4-day fasts to really work on lowering my levels. Your numbers being so much better than mine IF fasting will slowly do it.
