Blood test

I have been doing keto/omad since September I recently stepped it up to doing 72 hour fasts separated by a keto meal. I have been researching high triglycerides as I have blood work and an annual physical coming up on the 23rd of February. I want to see improvement in glucose and triglycerides, If I am understanding what I am reading in looks like triglycerides go up because of being “liberated” by fasting. Am I correct? If so would it be a good idea to not do any extended fasting between now and the test? I want a good report.

I don’t think you should try to game your blood test. You should do the test with as normal current behavior as possible then understand the results and adjust as appropriate. Think of the blood test as a spot check.

When I did ADF my blood tests went haywire.

I clearly was releasing cortisol and my cholesterol went through the roof. Normal around 270 - was up to 420. My LDL was 310. My HSCRP was 6.0. Normally 1.8.

Your body can take such fasting to be “starvation” and that sends it into alarm.

I would eat normally for at least 3 weeks before the tests.

Answer

Triglycerides often go up when fasting (obviously more stored fat is released into blood stream) and when doing keto, but this in itself is not a decisive factor. As more fat is released into the blood there are changes of course and the levels can’t be the same. Increase in LDL is to be expected, but what matters is the size of the LDL molecules and the ratio of triglycerides to HDL.
