Body Set Weight (BSW)

I see reference to bsw on Dr. Fung’s site - and also see a reddit question on the subject, but no definitive answer to the question of: How does the body set itself at a new ‘bsw’? Does it just take time to set at a specific weight? Does that bsw continually change as one uses a fasting approach for lowering insulin and weight?

Answer

Do an ITT to check your insulin resistance… a good endocrinologist should be able to link it to the BSW.

I was 190kgs and started a LCHF diet with a single meal per day and lost 90kgs. But then I started crawling to 120kgs.

I had a ITT test and my doctor told me my BSW was still at 150kgs.

After two cycles of 5-day fasting it went to 85kgs. I’m ending a third cycle now.

Answer

I’m not sure if the mechanism is fully fleshed out yet.

Body Set WEIGHT is kind of a misnomer. Just like your body doesn’t know how many calories you just ate, it also doesn’t know how much you weigh. What it is sensing for is the levels of various hormones in your body.

Fat is no just an inert substance, but it releases hormones that affect the body in a sort of feedback loop. Background insulin levels also play a role.

Answer

It might have something to do with fasting insulin levels. The lower they are, the lower the fat one carries; the higher they are, the more fat one carries. Or probably better said, easier or harder to gain fat.
