Body shape changing but no change in number on scale

I recently started IF (about one month ago) with a 16:8 window. I am noticing a shift in my body shape, less bloat, and more energy but I have yet to see the scale number change. Has anyone else noticed this?

Answer

Honestly, don’t use the scale to determine how succesful you are. Look at what you wrote: shiftin body shape, less bloat, more energy. That sounds a lot like you’re seeing iomprovements to me! You have to realize that your weight can shift by like 5 pounds a day just due to water. You should only wiegh yourself once a month. Focus on non-scale victories; doing so shifts your perception and instead of looking at IF as a diet you’ll consider it a lifestyle. Keep up the good work and stay focused on gaining independance from food :)

We started IF together at home, I (M) lost almost immediately , she (F) did not ……. We had nearly 30 days (tense, lol) of me making encouraging noises till the her weight started to drop …… I don’t think it’s just a M&F thing, we are all programmed differently and it takes different timings for different folks to make changes. I’d suggest that you consider making body measurements and updating them every time you weigh yourself, this may help you on weeks when the scale is stubbornly uncooperative , best of luck ;)

Answer

Same here! However, a few days ago I decided to check all my metrics including sleep and I was lacking. I had accumulated 13 hours of sleep debt in the last two weeks. So I schedule a few early bedtime this weekend and just like that I dropped two pound.

In my opinion we do IF for how we look in the mirror and also the number on the scale never really tells the whole story. I could Google my height and weight male and see someone with abs, which I don’t have, yet. Use the mirror.

Answer

I second what other people have said about not using a scale to measure your progress. There are many reasons you may not see that number going down. For example, water weight can affect your weight by up to +/- 5lbs a day or you could simply be replacing fat with muscle which is far denser and heavier

If you are interested in tracking your weight though, I’d recommend weighing yourself everyday at the same time and use your weekly average as a measuring point from week to week.

Answer

Yes, this happens to me. I am not patient with myself at all so it is really challenging, but I just have to constantly remind myself that this is how it is and it will pay off. I go by how my clothes fit and really that is more important to me than the number I see on the scale.

Answer

The scale is just one piece of information: use it as such. The goal here is to be a healthier person and that takes many different types of data including but not limited to weight, blood work, blood pressure, energy levels, skin quality, feelings of well being, strength, endurance, body girth measures etc

Answer

I didn’t see any weight loss at all in my first month but it did change in the second. I’ve been doing IF for 2.5 months now and most of my “gains” have been in the form of body shape changes for e.g. I lost 6 inches around my hips which is crazy, but not that much weight. Keep going, seems like everyone has a different experience
