Brand new to this. Need advice for how to handle my eating period at work.

Hi! Brand new to IF, just started this week per doctor’s recommendation. Well, should be on my 3rd week but week 2 I didn’t fast because I had COVID lol.

My doctor instructed me to have my eating period be from 8am-4pm due to my requirement to take my ADHD meds and SSRI on a full stomach. Well I work anywhere between 9-5 and 12-8 depending on my programming schedule.

First problem, I am struggling to get in enough food during this period to make my fasting period not miserable. I also have been adjusting my eating period to start when I actually eat the first time but I don’t know if that’s right. So if I work 12-8 and eat for the first time at 10:30am, should I extend my eating period to 6:30pm or should I just cram more calories into the shorter time?

As for eating enough, Im worried about implementing snacks because I am worried I will devolve into binging on salty stuff like chips. I also am a programming librarian so Im jumping between my own desk, the circ desk, outreach, and programs so I don’t often have time to sit and snack at work.

Any advice would be helpful, thanks!

Answer

It seems like you’re doing pretty well. Of course earlier window and regular everyday is ideal but it takes time to get there. I would also avoid snacking on chips if I were you. You can eat some nuts if you’re really worried. They’re really calorie dense and healthy.
