Breaking a fast with a protein shake

Someone at work told me by drinking my shake immediately after my shake is a bad idea because it has sugar and fat and my body will take that and hold onto it since I don’t eat much. Is there any truth to this?

Whatever works for you! Some days I have a salad, some days pizza, some days scrambled eggs and a protein shake…none affected weight loss

Remember you’re making a lifestyle change, not a diet, figure out things you can stick to long term. If that’s what works best for your body, go for it and tell coworker to keep their thoughts to themselves ;)

Answer

Protein shake is good because it’s easily digestible, and is a measured number of calories, and is generally low carb.

If you wanted to cut out sugar, that’s a lengthy process that’s very difficult to maintain and you could switch over to some kind of “greens” shake with unsweetened protein powder, but now you’re making a shake and that’s not efficient at all.

We recommend protein shakes as fast breakers in here all the time though. Tell that coworker to jog on.

Answer

I break my fast every single day with a protein shake that has banana and pb2. I’ve lost over 100 lbs in 5 months doing this every single day. (Though, I’ve got a lot to lose, so obviously YMMV) No, it will not hurt your weight loss.
