Broccoli Question

So I can only tolerate the fluffy top of broccoli. Is that the most nutritious part or is it the stem that holds the nutrients?

Answer

Keep doing what you are doing, florets are perfect!

“Broccoli stems, though not as colorful nor flavorful as their more desired florets, are just as nutritious. Actually, gram for gram, the stems contain slightly more calcium, iron and Vitamin C. No seriously. The dark green florets only provide more Vitamin A.”

Answer

i think broccoli is best blackened. hear me out - just rub it with olive oil and salt and roast it at 200c for 20-25 minutes and it’s delightfully crispy. it’s also wonderful steamed and blended with basil and pine nuts for a ‘pesto’

Answer

veggies usually are full of nutrients and it doesnt matter what part you eat, but the color of the veggie determines a little bit of “what is where”…
Im not an expert and cant tell you exactly, but its allways best to eat whole veggies, but the top is def. more nutritious…

Answer

Have you tried peeling the stems before you eat them? I have met a few people that didn’t know about this and I personally couldn’t tolerate eating them without peeling

Edit: I eat the stems raw but on the same day I peel them otherwise it tastes like soap to me

Answer

You can buy frozen broccoli “crowns” so you don’t have to eat the stems or waste them. Peeling the stems does make them a bit more palatable, but not enough for me to seek them out. Peeling celery gets rid of the strings, fyi.
