Broke my planned 42 hr fast at 28 hrs

Succeeded without difficulty with first 42 hour fast last week. Tried again this week and made it through 24 hrs feeling pretty good. It was hard to sit down at dinner with my husband and two kids and did feel hungry afterwards, but that passed. I may have made a mistake in having some mint tea in the evening. Then in bed was feeling nauseous and a little woozy so went down and ate some food (chicken and green beans) and felt much better.

Will try again next week, want to continue flexing my fasting muscles. Will skip the mint tea, stick to water.

I’m a big believer in listening to your body.

And, I also don’t subscribe to the ‘more is always better’ mindset.

Thus, if doing a longer fast is something you really want to try, go ahead. But, most people who do IF never do extended fasts (i.e., more than 24 hours), so do not beat yourself up, especially if it is adding to your stress levels.

Answer

I’m actually 43 hours into a 72 hour fast right now and sparkling water is helping. When I get a pang, I just gulp it till I feel it in my stomach, and it passes. I also found slimfast intermittent drink pouches and it helps with my sweet tooth because it tastes like super sugary red kool-aid, so I highly recommend those.

Answer

You could try in steps—I tried drinking broth first then just water. But if you think it was the mint tea, might be better to stick to water only. The hard part for me for any 35-48 fast was being way too alert for sleep.
