Bulletproof coffee?

I’m about to embark on my first 36/12 fast. I’ve googled around and am seeing mixed messages about bulletproof coffee. Some sites say adding both butter and coconut oil to coffee won’t break a fast, as long as you don’t add mct oil. That doesn’t make sense to me because butter and coco oil are high calorie. Is it because they are pure fat and won’t disrupt my body’s transition to ketosis? Can anyone clear this up for me?

I should add I’m not desperate to find a list of things I can have during my fasting window. More curious about BC in particular because I don’t love having my coffee black.

BPC doesn’t cause an insulin surge since it is all fat. So that’s why it isn’t horrible.

I usually have them the first three days while I’m still hungry. I do notice my BG doesn’t drop much if I go walk and had a BPC. 🤔. Where as I can knock 30-40 off these days.

As others have mentioned, if you are fasting for autophagy, it technically breaks a fast. However, I thought I would share my experience using BP coffee.

I recently transitioned to ADF and had a few false starts trying to get to the 40-44 hour mark, I definitely had a few missed goals. Anyway, I ended up in some Google black hole and found “fat fasting”. I read a lot about it, watched YT videos, etc… and learned that the fats will not spike insulin, which helps with fat loss.

When I decided to try ADF again, I “allow” myself a BP coffee if I am really struggling to help get me to my goal of 42 hours. I have to admit, it has saved me on some of my fasting days and helped me start to get used to them. I will only have 1-2 if needed. And I try to get no less than 20 hours of clean fasting before I will resort to BPC, it is usually closer to the 24-26 hour mark. And I try to drink it in 10-15 min. I do not linger over the cup for an hour.

Anyway, I thought I would share a perspective of how I use it even though it is not technically “fast” approved.

Bullet proof coffee has calories. In reality its not bug deal to have. The issue is that lets say you burn 2500 a day fasting. (This depends on your TDEE) Heavy cream is EXTREMLEY calorically dense. So why it gets a bad wrap is because people will go heavy on cream, and have 1500 calories in 3-4 coffees and literally nearly negate the caloric deficiet and blame the heavy cream.

So can you see great results in using bullet proof coffee? Yes. It will get rid of majority of your hunger pains, and taste amazing! But, for the love of fasting, measure the cream and keep it under 10 percent of your TDEE.

In the U.S. there is half & half, half cream half milk. I have been 18:6(starting March of 2020) for over two years and OMAD for over a year. The entire time I have had half in half in my morning coffee. I just uss so little it does break my fast. 50 calories or more will most likely break a fast. Since March of 2020 I have lost 70 pounds and am maintaining my goal weight. I also have reversed obesity, reversed high cholesterol, reversed high blood pressure, reversed pre-diabetes, reversed sleep apnea and reversed brain damage from being in autophagy every day for a year.
