I am starting my water fast today but I have a softball game coming up in two days. Will I be able to play while fasting?
Not an elite athlete, but I (38/m) play competitive tennis (USTA 5.0, if that helps) matches once to twice a week. The matches, including warmup, can last upward of 2.5 hours with very few rest periods which are all short. I’ve had several matches this year fall at or near the halfway point of 5-day water/coffee/tea fasts, and have been fine every time, but I know someone who’s as serious as I am about the same fasting protocol who doesn’t fare as well unless she takes glucose tablets along with keto-friendly real foods before her matches, who then will decide on how she feels the next day to determine when to return to fasting.
