Can humans fully digest animals who are scavengers?

My mom read a book written a few years ago claiming humans should not eat pork or shellfish because pigs and shellfish are scavengers and bottom feeders. When pigs and shellfish can handle eating their food, which is any scrap they find, because of their bodies’ enzymes; however, when humans eat pigs and shellfish, humans cannot digest these enzymes. Therefore pigs, shellfish, and other scavengers are unhealthy for you, as is claimed in the most widely read religious texts.

What is your opinion on eating the enzymes of scavenger animals? Should pork and shellfish be avoided, despite their healthy complexion of micronutrients and macronutrients?

Answer

After a quick search, a lot of the highest foods listed as natural enzyme suppliers were fruits or fermented products such as kefir and miso. Never heard of these “enzymes” that are only in pork and shellfish? Not saying your mom didn’t read that, just a bit confused, can you enlighten me?

Answer

“Enzymes “ are proteins. You have no problem breaking down and digesting proteins* (every rule has exceptions. You cant digest hair or prion proteins for instance).

This is a hard pass and psuedo science.

I recall a class once that mentioned something about how the further you get from the original energy source, the less efficient it becomes. The original OG source being plants, who convert sunlight, and herbivores being the next step, predators being yet another. Something about ATP conversion or whatever.

That was… what, over 20 years ago now? So that science may have been debunked. But it might not be. I wish I’d paid more attention in class.
