Can I drink a diet coke in the morning?

It has no calories, carbs, sugar, nothing. I just don’t want to break the fast by having it

Answer

I personally don’t have them whether fasting or not. It’s too much like the real thing and I’d end up getting hungry and relapsing. However, if it helps you overall get to your fasting/health/weight goals, then go for it. But be honest with yourself.

Answer

There isn’t enough evidence that I’m aware of that clearly proves that diet drinks break a fast, and some people will have different tales of their own experiences. IMO, if it helps you comply with fasting, go ahead and drink it but in reasonable amounts.

Answer

It breaks a fast. Anything with sweetener breaks a fast. It causes an insulin response (not blood sugar, insulin levels can only be tested in a lab) and stops autophagy. So whether you’re fasting for weight loss or autophagy benefits, either way you’re defeating the purpose of the fast.
