Can I fast without the intention of losing weight, but rather for the psychological benefits?

I’m completely new to the sub, and happy to (hopefully) be here! I would like to find healthy, common ground towards the journey. I’m 5’7 and weigh 125 lbs for reference.

If this is possible, can someone provide me with details such as lengths between meals and/or other important key advice I should follow?

I fast for autophagy- not weight. I do OMAD with a longer fast every other week to mix things up. I usually do 48s, but have done a few 96s too.

I also limit my carbs to 20g max per day.

I may switch to ADF- alternative day fasts- as I have been reading about that being a good choice for women. But the jury is still out on that.

I feel great- physically and mentally. Fasting and eliminating processed food and sugar are the best things I’ve ever done for my health and well being.

As it is your body should be carrying around 2k calories worth of glycogen in the liver plus ATP in the muscle tissue, which are your carb storages. doing 24 hour fasts would start tapping some of your fat reserves but for the most part your system should have enough carbs to support you. Beyond that a single pound of fat has 3,500 calories and even as skinny as you are you probably have 15 pounds of fat here and there. Which make no mistake, you should not be trying to get rid of and should refuel to maintain.

How long a fast are you hoping for?
